Anne Friis SQUARE, ROUND - floor tiles and wallpaper 23.6. – 7.7. 2018 | Press release | Poster
Ornamentation introduces uncertainty - balancing a plurality of ambiguities or in-betweens. It is, what it is not: The hole is the presence of the negative form. The contour is a cutout or is matter. It may be a picture or may be absence. In the exhibition the ornaments are understated. Not disguising the boundaries of space as ornamentation traditionally does, but rather using the geometry to propose a nuanced sensibility of the site and the edges of space. The pieces on show are made using the techniques of cutout, tiling and repetition with the implementation of roundness as a recurrent theme. The generic shape becomes specific in the material presence of the concrete.
